Hello from Krabi! We arrived yesterday evening around 6pm. Unfortunately the Lomprayah boat was late arriving in to Koh Samui and we were a whole hour late leaving. How unfortunate. I knew things ran on a little bit sometimes but I never thought it would be that late.
However, we made it to Krabi with no other hiccups thank god. The Lomprayah office is situated some 2km or so outside of the town. Therefore you are either to walk to your accommodation, get a taxi or quite conveniently pay an additional sum to avail of Lomprayah’s line of mini buses ready and willing to drive you that bit closer to the town. Most people paid 100 baht extra/each to get their destination however if you were staying in Krabi town you were charged just 50 baht/each. I think some people were somewhat annoyed and I do think you were being hoaxed in to using the service but I was tired and cranky and just wanted to get to our hotel. So we paid the 100 baht and we were soon on our way.
We had booked two nights in a hotel called P.N. Guesthouse in Krabi Town in advance via agoda.com. The hotel left little to the imagination however for just €17 for two nights what were we to expect? The toilet was leaking, the drainage for the sink wasn’t fully inserted in the floor, and therefore the water would flow in around the bathroom and slowly but surely make its way to the little drain situated somewhat close by! We also had a cockroach in the bathroom, extending to…wait for it, nearly 5 cm! I could barely sleep thinking about it! But it was a roof over our head, four walls with peeling paint and a window that didn’t close property! Unfortunately allowing the noises of the early risers of Thailand and their automobiles drift oh so easily in to our room. I will say however the staff have been nothing but nice to us :)
This morning we were awoken rather early, regrettably, to coughing, spluttering and sneezing from our lovely neighbours which what felt like it was right outside our door. I think maybe they were waiting on their friends next door and were heading out on a tour for the day. Why else would you be awake so early! However we rose shortly after and made our way to the town for some breakfast. We both had a pleasant breakfast in hostel/restaurant called Hometel. The service wasn’t anything to write home about and neither was the food although I still enjoyed it. I sure do like a fry up and some coffee in the morning!
We then strolled around for a bit walking by the river and later stopping for another coffee in a little placed called La Gateau on the main stretch of road running parallel to the water. After that we were pretty much bate, the heat was just too much for us so we slowly made our way back to the hotel.
A big Krabi!
We have decided to move on to Phuket tomorrow altogether. We reckon there might be a better scene for New Year’s Eve so we have booked someplace nice for four nights near Patong Beach on the west coast of Phuket. We shopped around a little bit for our bus tickets and we managed to score tickets from an agent up the road from our hotel to Patong Beach, Phuket for 320 baht/each. Most prices vary in around this price however when you’re on a budget every baht counts!
So it’s bed early as we were getting collected in the morning around 11am however we hope to catch some breakfast before this!
Until next time, have a good morning, afternoon and/or evening wherever you’re checking in from and I will catch up with you in Krabi.
Adios!
