Happy New Year to you all….I hope you had a great night ringing in 2016 with your loved ones. Jamie and I went for a bite to eat in Patong last night and hit the beach at about 9.30pm with some drinks.
There was hundreds of people on the beach it was pretty spectacular! The vendors were also out in force selling everything from fireworks to Chinese lanterns. The sky was literally alight with the amount of lanterns, so we politely declined their offers and enjoyed watching the efforts of others attempting to make theirs fly! Some unfortunately never took flight and burned right there on the beach, some were unlucky in the skies and were caught in the midst of some fireworks while others drifted slowly and calmly into the dark skies.
First stop, food & beer!
Waiting patiently!
The fireworks had started as soon as darkness fell in and around 6.30pm however the real display took place at midnight. Although we were keeping an eye on the clock unfortunately there was no countdown rather the massive eruption of dazzling lights in the sky once midnight chimed. It was the biggest assortment of fireworks I had ever seen.
The fireworks continued well in to the night, in fact I was awoken this morning at 8am to them STILL being set off! Not the nicest way to wake up, that in line with a pounding headache (maybe from the drink!) inspired little or no enthusiasm for the day ahead.
However, we did venture out this afternoon for some McDonald’s! Anyway, Patong is crazy guys but such a cool place to spend NYE!
Happy New Year!
