Hello everyone!
I hope you’re having a good week so far. Jamie and I took to the streets of Melbourne again on Saturday to explore some more. We went to the Melbourne Museum which is north of the city in Carlton and is based largely on natural and cultural history.
We spent a good 3 hours or so here. These types of museums are generally very big so it’s always best to set aside a full morning/afternoon. Admission was $14 for an adult and concession was free.
There is also a Gallery with a large portion of paintings etc. on display but we didn’t venture in there as we had already spent the morning in the other areas and had gotten quite tired!
In the afternoon then we went on to the Queen Victoria Market which is again north of the city but a little to the west of Carlton, however it is just a tram stop or two away so there was no bother. You could walk it very easily though as everything in the CBD and the outskirts are relatively close to each other.
We didn’t get to the market until about 2pm and noted at the entrance that it closed at 3pm. However we had a quick dash around the market and picked up a few bits, mainly a few souvenirs. More details regarding their opening hours (which I would advise checking before you go there!) can be found on their website here; http://museumvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum/.
We also picked up some lunch from a little stall called the Spanish Gourmet Caterers. We both picked up a chicken baguette and we shared a glass of Sangria…..oh my god they were both delicious! I cannot get over the food here in Melbourne, every meal we have just gets better than the last. This company can be found online here; https://www.facebook.com/SpanishGourmetCaterers
So we hung around until about 3.30pm and then made our way back in to the City centre. We generally grab a cappuccino (for me!) and a slurpee (for Jamie) and then relax outside the State Library of Victoria. It’s such a nice place to hang out in front of, there’s a sloped landscaped lawn and ample seats so it’s really lovely.
The interior of the building is also worth checking out. What a fantastic space! One of the rooms is called La Trobe Reading Space and can be viewed from three floors above so it really is quite a vast space. Photo below shows lots of students studying and others doing some reading and researching. More details for the library can be found here; http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/.
Safe to say we had another fantastic day in this wonderful city! :)
