Hello everybody!
We finally arrived in Melbourne on Thursday morning at 9.20am (Oz time) after nearly 24 hours of travelling. We were so tired because neither of us managed to sleep much on the 8 hour journey over. We flew from Hat Yai in the South of Thailand to Kuala Lumpur which took just under a two hours and from there it took 8 hours to reach Melbourne.
We are staying with friends of my brothers who I met a couple of years ago while visiting him in Canada. They are an extremely lovely couple and have been nothing but friendly and accommodating since arriving. It’s so lovely to just sit and relax as if you’re at home and make yourself a cuppa rather than having to nip out to the shop. Something you’d take for granted when at home.
How cool does this look? And this is only a bank!
We were waiting for them to finish work in order to spin home with them so Jamie and I did a little bit of rummaging through Melbourne. Of course I hit the shops and bought a few bits but the main thing we did was sort our Australian bank account. This was set up for us via USIT which was inclusive of the price we paid for the 12 month visa. Therefore the visa/debit card was ready and waiting for us at one of the ANZ Banks in Melbourne. Unfortunately they were sent to two different branches so we had to firstly find them both and then run through the whole process twice! However it's done now and we’re just glad it’s all sorted. Next up is an Australian mobile number and a Tax File Number for when we want to start working so that we are not taxed too much!
We did a bit of strolling around then and immediately fell in love with Melbourne. I can really see why everyone raves on about the place and why it won the most liveable city for the fifth time in a row last year! It’s not what I expected it to be, it’s even better! Although it’s so expensive, I nearly fainted when buying a bottle of water the cashier asked for $2.80, for a small bottle of water! Yikes!
So that’s pretty much all we’ve done. We did an awful lot of relaxing today Friday although we did head to a little shopping centre about 5 minutes up the road to pick up a global adaptor so that we can charge our phones and laptop etc. Other than that, I’ve no other news.
Check out those pics though! Wow! And they’re not even the real sites yet!
