Brrrr-illiant time at the Melbourne Ice Bar

Melbourne may get chilly in the winter time and last Saturday by no means was an exception, luckily this prepared us for the downright arctic conditions at the Ice Bar in Melbourne. Tucked away in the uber-chic inner north eastern street of Brunswick lies Australia’s only ice bar with temperatures plummeting to -10 degrees. Ouch, that’s cold!

We had such a great time celebrating our second last weekend here in Melbourne and the Ice Bar was one of the many reasons. ‘Twas mighty craic to say the least!

Need To Know

Entrance to the bar is pretty easy, located at 319 Brunwick St and straight up you’re met with the lovely staff members who quickly get you kitted out in the wintry clothes! Snow capes with hoods, gloves, Ugg boots and socks are all provided to every visitor. I was sure I didn’t need my coat underneath this as well, but I went with it and boy was I glad. I know I’m Irish but nothing can prepare you for those temperatures… even when we came back out it felt like summer!

What does your money get you?

Ticket prices start from $35 however we went for the $45/each option, which allows you rental of all the gear (as mentioned above), entrance to the bar and two drinks, yes TWO! And even the cocktails have a double shot! You can spend as long as you want in there but we maxed out at about 40 minutes to be honest.

You can pay an additional fee for a photo, which can be a digital version or printed in the bar. I find the digital version is probably the better option as you can print yourself at home or upload straight to social media!

Who can visit?

Absolutely anyone. At the end of the day, it is still a bar and alcohol is served however we went in around 4pm and there was kids just having left and another group came in just after us and they seemed to absolutely love it which is great.

Some interesting facts about the Ice Bar Melbourne

  • All the sculptures are hand carved

  • At -10 degrees, it is the coldest Ice Bar in the world

  • The ice is carved locally in the western suburb of Tullamarine in Melbourne

  • Ice Bar Melbourne is the only Ice Bar in Australia

All in all, I think it is well worth a visit, the staff are good, the drinks are tasty and if that ain't a recipe for a good night out then I don't know what is!

We visited the IceBar Melbourne as paying customers. As always, all opinions are my own.
